M. Fahim Khan (Islamic Society for Institutional Economics)

Dr. Nejatullah Siddiqi, King Faisal Prize Laureate in Islamic Economics,
has prepared a note to examine the relevance of Islamic economics today
and whether it has a message for humanity in so far as its current
financial problems are concerned? It is a very perceptive response from
Dr Siddiqi which I appreciate very much. I am writing this note just to
reiterate the position, taken by this forum of I-SIE, that if we need to
draw lessons from Islamic economics, we need to look into the economics
embodied in the institutional framework of Islam.

No doubt, riba (interest, usuary) and maysir (gambling, speculative
activities similar to gambling) are the major factors leading to the
current financial crisis. Islam's prohibition of Riba and Maysir
along with Islamic values and morals, and recognizing others'
interest in one's economic fortunes, if adhered to, could not have
lead the world to the present day financial crisis. Keeping individuals
and Society free form financial and economic crises can clearly be seen
as one of the objectives of such instiutions.

The question, however, is how to do this now? Where to go from where we
are now? Even if we can declare that taking and charging of interest in
banking operations is prohibited, the question remains; what is the
alternative? Current practice of Islamic banking has not provided any
convincing alternative. With the Tawarruq made Shari'a compatible, the
results can not be expected much different from those of interest based
banking system.

Through this forum, I like to draw the attention of all concerned about
the need to investigate into the institutional framework of financial
system that prevailed in the Islamic societies before they were
colonized by the West. The contemporary financial system came into
existence when the Muslim societies had already been colonized and their
institutions demolished or diluted. The modern financial system
developed without taking any lessons from the Muslim civilization.

It is curious to note that almost all branches of modern knowledge admit
the contributions of Islamic civilization often referred to
"medieval ages" towards their discipline, except science of
Economics and Finance which does not recognize any contribution made by
Islamic civilization in this field. Even Schumpeter, writing history of
economic thought totally ignores the long history of economic successes
in the era of Islamic civilization. It was the period when the poverty
was non existent. Basic needs of every one were met. No one was
"poor" enough to look forward to receive charity. Worldwide
famine type situations were intelligently and successfully dealt with.
There is no evidence of financial and economic crisis in the long
history spread over about 1000 years.

It is now the time that visionary economists and financial gurus look
back and investigate into the institutional set in the economy of
medieval ages to find solution for the current crisis. Those familiar
with the economy of medieval ages do know that its financial system was
not a banking-based system. Its system was either market (of goods and
services) based system or it was based on Qardh Hasan (benevolent loans,
normally understood as charities). Financing needs in the market were
met through trade contracts. Sale contracts with deferred payments and
sale contracts with advance payments met the financing needs through the
market without needing financial intermediation. "Know thy
client" is more relevant for maket based financial system and hence
the issues of adverse selection, moral hazard and transaction cost were
minimized. The financing needs that market could not or did not want to
meet, were met by the institutions of Qardh Hasan, Zakah and Awqaf
promoted by Islamic teachings. The issue of moral hazard, adverse
selection and transaction did not occur even in these institutions. The
need for developing financial intermediaries never arose despite
economic growth and development.

It is not the place to discuss the details of such a system to meet the
financing needs of a modern economy. Once the concept is acceptable, the
details can be worked out. The point is that market itself is a better
place to generate a financial system to suit its own needs. If markets
are functioning well and institutions are in place to give support and
protection for the market to provide financing as part of the contract
of the sale and purchase of goods and services and if there are
institutions to meet the social needs not met by market, there will be
no need to develop banks to provide a financial system on interest
basis. Even now, several businesses large and small, wholesale and
retail, are doing the business by providing financing while
selling/purchasing goods and services, without letting their customers
go through the banking system to get the financing. They do not have to
explicitly refer to interest calcualtions when providing financing for
their sales and purchases. Every thing is built-in within the price.

The concept of Forward Sale as give by Islam (known as Bai' Salam)
is wonderful guide to develop a market of Futures contract without
tempting the traders and producers in the market to go into gamabling or
gambling type "speculation" . (For more detailed discussion on
this, see my paper on "Islamic Futures and their Market"
published by Islamic Research and Training Institute and is downloadable
free from their website). Modern finance, does not recognise the
financial system prevailing in medieval ages because it did not borrow
anything from there. Occasionally, somewhere we may find a reference to
forward contracts of the medieval ages. But there is hardly any attempt
to understand the nature and economics of those forward contracts in
comparison with the forward and future commodity contracts of today. The
financial gurus may find a lot in the economic and financial system that
was in practice when Islamic civilization was on top of the world

For drawing lessons from the Islamic financial system as prevalent in
the so called medieval ages, what is needed to be done is to reform the
market of goods and services in a way that allows the market to develop
its own financial instruments to suit the financing needs of the
society. Infrastructural institutions are required to be developed to
promote and protect the financing provided by the market of goods and
services as part of its sales and purchases, rather than promoting and
protecting the banking institutions to finance gambling and speculation.

A bank-free but market-based financial system is the key to have
crisis-free financial and economic system. The developed world can take
lead in introducing market-based financial system and show the way to
the developing world too, how to get out of the trap of banking based
financial system.

Banking-based financial system has long been losing its credibility in
the eyes of financial gurus. To Frederic Mishikin, it is a puzzle,
"What makes banks so important?" when there are better and less
complicated options available in the market to raise financing
(including loans). See his book The Economics of Money, Banking and
Financial System.

The world bank report on Institutions, 2000 identifies two types of
financial system. Market based financial system and banking based
financial system. Germany has been mentioned to be having a more market
based financial system compared to other countries in the West and now,
probably, it is Germany which is in a better shape among the G-7, in
this time of worst financial crisis.

It is in the interest of both the Islamic economists and conventional
economists to look into the Islamic economic system which has been in
practice for a very very long time. Islamic Civilization gave a lot to
the modern world to develop physical and natural sciences. Let us see if
there is anything for the science of economics and finance to borrow
from there in the interest of the wellbeing of man on earth. I
particularly invite those working in the framework of New Institutional
Economics (NIE) to take it up as a commitment to their own discipline.
Let us think of an economy at least free of commercial banking. To start
with, let us see how an economy would shape up if there were no
commercial banks and there were no short term borrowing and lending on
interest through financial intermediaries.

Note for Dr. Siddiqi: I hope Dr Nejatullah Siddiqi puts his note on
internet soon so that a link is provided on this site for ready
reference.

Ever Wonder ?????

Why a nun can be covered from head to toe and she's respected for devoting
herself to God, but when a Muslimah does that, she's considered
"oppressed"?

Mengapa seorang biarawati bisa tertutup dari kepala hingga ujung jari kaki
dan ia dihormati karena membaktikan dirinya untuk Tuhan, sedangkan jika
seorang muslimah melakukannya, ia sering
dicap "tertindas"?

Why a Jew can grow a beard and he's just practicing his faith, and when a
Muslim does that, he's an extremist?

Mengapa seorang Yahudi bisa memelihara janggutnya dan ia dipandang melulu
sedang melaksanakan kepercayaannya, dan ketika seorang Muslim melakukannya
ia adalah seorang ekstrimis?

When a western woman stays at home to look after the house and kids she's
sacrificing herself and doing good for the household, but when a Muslim
woman does so, she "needs to be liberated"?

Jika seorang wanita barat tinggal di rumah dan merawat rumah beserta
anak-anaknya, ia dianggap tengah berkorban dan berbuat baik untuk
rumahtangganya, tetapi jika seorang perempuan Muslim melaksanakannya ia
dianggap "perlu dimerdekakan".

Why is it that when a child dedicates himself to a subject, he has
potential, and when a child dedicates himself to Islam, he is hopeless?

Mengapa jika seorang anak meraih keberhasilan pada suatu disiplin ilmu, ia
dianggap berpotensi, tetapi jika ia membaktikan dirinya pada Islam, ia
dianggap tak ada harapan?

When a Christian kills someone, religion is not mentioned, (i.e., Ireland
and the IRA) but when a Muslim is charged with a crime, it's Islam that
goes
to trial?

But then again, why is it after all that, Islam is still the fastest
growing
religion in the world ?

Tetapi kemudian, mengapa meskipun semua itu terjadi, Islam tetap merupakan
agama yang berkembang tercepat di dunia?

A record number of Muslim stars lead the twice crowned European champions France in the 13th European football championship.

PARIS - A record number of Muslim stars lead the twice crowned European champions France in the 13th European football championship, Euro 2008, which started on Saturday.

The 23-man squad of Les Bleus (the nickname for the French soccer team) will feature nine Muslim players.

Leading among Muslim stars is Germany's Bayern Munich right-sided winger Franck Ribery.
The 25-year-old Ribery is known for supplicating to God before the game kickoff.
"Islam is the source of power for me inside and outside the football field," Ribery has said.
"My life was hard enough and I had to find something to take me to safety and I found Islam."
Ribery's reversion to Islam, which was leaked in 2006, was first noticed during France's opener against Switzerland in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The blue-eyed boy of the French soccer fans started his playing career at his home town club US Boulogne and then moved to Ales, Brest and FC Metz in consecutive seasons.

His move to Olympique Marseille has earned him top French player honors for the months of August, October and November 2005. He was selected for the French squad for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany.

Muslim Stars A second Muslim soccer star, Eric Abidal, will also appear in French colors in Euro 2008.

The 29-year-old Barcelona defender reverted to Islam five years ago and named himself "Bilal".
Abidal, who was considered one of the best fullbacks in the French league, says his Muslim faith encourages him to spare no efforts to serve his team.

"I embraced Islam in full conviction," Abidal, who is married to an Algerian woman, has told Paris Match magazine.

Abidal, a father of two, started his professional career with AS Monaco on September 16, 2000, where he earned 22 first-team appearances.

He moved to Lille OSC and at the end of 2004, he returned to his native region by joining Olympique Lyonnais.

In June 2007, Abidal moved to FC Barcelona, the world's second richest club, for 15 million sterling pound.

Les Bleus also feature Muslim striker Thierry Henry, who moved to Barcelona from Britain's Arsenal for 16.1 million sterling pound.

Henry usually encourages people to read more about Islam and the Noble Qur'an to get more acquainted with the faith.

Henry, known as the magician, was twice nominated for the FIFA World Player of the Year.
He led the French national team to win the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

Defender Lilian Thuram is also another Muslim star in the French team.
There is also super striker Anelka, who reverted to Islam in 1991 when he was 16.

The French team also features Muslim midfielder Lassana Diarra (Portsmouth), striker Karim Benzema (Lyon), midfielder Samir Nasri (Marseille) and left-winger Hatem Ben Arfa (Lyon).

France will play its opener game against Romania on Monday, June 9.
Sixteen teams are vying in the tournament, which is jointly organized by Austria and Switzerland and will run until June 29,

The winner of Euro 2008 will represent the continent at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa.

The whole world is particular about economy which is considered as the main source of life.
Every nation and every country strive hard to strengthen their economic situation. When the economy of a country is strong, the country will advance in many other fields like industries, technologies and even military. The strong economy enables a country to take over another country.

Little wonder, economy is always the focus of all the world leaders. The muslim world are also in the race. They are also strengthening their economy. Many via the capitalist system introduced and supported by the Western countries and the Jews.

The muslim forget that Islam has its own economic system which is far better than the capitalist. Under islamic economy, God is the essence.

The capitalist?s main focus is profitability per se. The concept of love and care in undertaking business decision is almost non existing. Economy as an ibadah is unthinkable.

As such, capitalists will compete vigorously to increase their profits and minimize their losses even by stepping on others.

Unfortunately, many muslims are also in the same school of thought. Instead of taking God as the guidance, we try to compete with the capitalists on their own platform which is created by them to generate income for themselves.

The result? We always failed and face further diminution.
Muslims must reassess their economic focus and guidelines. Taqwa is the foundation upon which all business decisions and planning should be constructed.

The Islamic economic and financial systems are meant to protect human, and to promote love and care, peace and harmony here and the hereafter unity among all, bringing peace and harmony here and the hereafter.

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases: Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.

METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure (30 days)
2. Gastric (10 days)
3. Diabetes (30 days)
4. Constipation (10 days)
5. Cancer (180 days)
6. TB (90 days)
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards - daily.

This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times. It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active. This makes sense ... The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain... For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal.
However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.A serious note about heart attacks: ? Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting, ? Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. ? You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. ? Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. ? 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. ? Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep.
Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive... A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to everyone they know, you can be sure that we'll save at least one life.

Is the universe infinite? Or is it finite in a steady state? From the very beginning this has been a subject of debate between great minds. Hot debates and ratiocination of all kinds failed to clarify this dilemma. This had once been the subject of philosophical speculations before it yielded its place to the science of physics. Some of the great minds argued that the universe was not a confined space, while others contended that its boundaries were drawn. The Quran describes it as a continuously expanding and dynamic universe. According to this description, the universe has a new aspect every instant that deviates from the concept of an infinite space; its perpetual expansion defies the concept of a confined and steady state universe. Thus, the Quran propounds a third alternative, leaving the heated controversy of thinkers in abeyance.

This may contribute to the formulation of a judgment for the inquiring minds, probing whether the Quran is God's revelation or not. We have, on the one hand, Muhammad in the desert, neither a philosopher nor a physicist, and, on the other hand, the assumptions of great thinkers and philosophers such as Aristotle, Ptolemy,Giordano Bruno, Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton, to name but a few. The greatest minds in history, basing their arguments on observations and formulas they had ingeniously devised, claimed either that the universe had its confines or that it was an endless space, but it occurred to none of them to think of a dynamic expanding universe, until the 20th century when Edwin Hubble, by means of a telescope, demonstrated that the universe was expanding. The theory of expansion of the universe was first advanced in the 1920s. Until the descent of the Quran no other source had made such an assertion!

MUHAMMAD'S TELESCOPE

Unbelievers contended that the Quran was Muhammad's own fabrication and not the revelation of God. How then would these dissenters explain the fact that Muhammad had been the only person who was aware of the expanding universe long before the 1920s.

Could it be that in the 600s he had invented a telescope similar to the one contrived in the 1900s? Could it be that he had been familiar with the handling of such a telescope and acquainted with the motion of stars and that he had concealed it from his fellow men? If those who accused the Prophet of lunacy and alleged that in his delusional states he imagined himself the messenger of God were justified in their claims, how would they account for the fact that he knew facts not known to his contemporaries, facts that were to be discovered 1300 years after his revelation of them? If those people assert that the Prophet had devised a religion to serve his own ends, how can they explain that his so-called delusions materialized after a lapse of 1300 years? His pronouncements at the time did not promote his interests in any way; quite the reverse was the case, since he unwittingly gave his enemies a hint they might take advantage of.

Can a person whose own interests prevail over the interests of others declare something not to his own advantage that was sure to be bitterly censured and much derided by those whose naked eyes failed to observe the expansion of the universe? If, despite this, a person came up with the contention that Muhammad was an intelligent man who might have perceived this truth, what sort of an intelligence might this have been?

And, instead of boasting of having been the depository of such knowledge, why would he have preferred to tell an untruth and claim that this was not his own discovery but the revelation by God? While the inventor or discoverer of a pin is inclined to brag about his breakthrough, why on earth would Muhammad choose to be modest and categorically declare that the Quran was not his own production, but the revelation of God? Was this due to humility? Would these people - who had denied his prophethood and accused him of having been an impostor - have dared qualify him with the laudable attribute of "humility?"

DISCOVERY OF THE EXPANDING UNIVERSE

There was a gap in Newton's physics. Newton believed in an endlessly vast and static universe. His law of gravity encountered a problem. How was it that the physical bodies, in the course of eons, defied their mutual attractions and did not collapse into a unity? The formula that Einstein devised abandoned the absolute notions of space and time as reference points for all objects in the universe. Basing his studies on Einstein's formulas, Alexander Friedmann, a Russian physicist, discovered that the universe must be expanding. Georges Lema?tre, a Belgian cleric, astronomer and cosmologist, formulated that the universe had begun in a cataclysmic explosion of a small, primeval superatom, like the growing of an oak tree from an acorn.

This theory explained the recession of galaxies within the framework of Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity. This idea was so incredible that even Einstein had problems accepting it, despite the fact that this all had originated from his own formulas. Einstein, rather, countered that physics was not the forte of Lema?tre, and the universe was an infinite expanse and in a steady state.

Lema?tre's theory posited that the universe was expanding. This was a statement that no philosopher and no scientist had ever before set forth. Kant had said in his Critique of Pure Reason that this was an enigma unsolvable by human intelligence. This theory fit everything and explained the reason why the universe did not collapse in spite of gravity. The key had fit into the lock. It was the correct explanation of the enigma. However, this statement met with the usual adverse reaction: "No, it is not the truth..."

Remaining outside the sphere of theoretical controversy, American astronomer Hubble was, about the same time, making observations with his sophisticated telescope in the Mount Wilson observatory. He observed that galaxies were receding from each other, which proved that the universe was expanding. In answer to those who said they could not believe in things their eyes had not witnessed, Hubble's discovery led to the following declaration: "Now that you see it, you have got to believe it." Hubble showed this by the Doppler Effect. Thus the wavelengths of receding bodies prolonged in the spectrum of light waves would shift to red, while, if the bodies approached each other, the wavelengths would shorten, shifting to blue. The light that came from galaxies that shifted to red showed that the galaxies were receding. In line with this observation, Hubble discovered a striking law: the speed of galaxies that receded was directly proportional to the distance between galaxies. The farther away a galaxy stood, the more its speed of recession accelerated. The result was tested again and again. In 1950, a high-magnification telescope was installed on Mount Palomar in the USA, the largest instrument of its kind. The new tests and controls justified this observation. The measurements made pointed to the fact that the creation of the universe occurred about 10-15 billion years ago.

Both Einstein and Lema?tre took an interest in Hubble's work; Einstein, who did not agree with Lema?tre at first, eventually acknowledged during a conference that Lema?tre was right after all. He confessed that his failure to endorse these findings had been the gravest error in his life. Thus it was that the fact that the universe was of a dynamic nature and expanding, confirmed by observations, was also validated by the great physicist Einstein.

In the examples presented by Hubble and Lema?tre, we see illustrated how a physicist arrives at a conclusion both in theory and through observation. While Lema?tre demonstrated how he had made inferences from Einstein's formulas to substantiate his theoretical discoveries, Hubble presented the data of his observations and his conclusions.

As we see, the result obtained by physicists is the consequence of cumulative and collective bits of knowledge and research. The Creator of physical laws provides the answer in the Quran to the issues of towering importance throughout human history. The Quran's presentation of scientific facts is clear, direct, and concise; it is different than the presentation of scientists, which tends to be complicated by scientific methods and procedures. The provider of this answer does not have to go through all the labyrinths a scientist has to. The Quran's method is perfectly straightforward, unswerving and explicit.

If we had the possibility of looking at the universe from above and somebody asked us to describe what we saw, our answer would be that it was expanding. To achieve the Quran's revelation of this fact 1400 years ago, man would have needed access to the assistance of accumulated scientific data acquired throughout long years and to sophisticated telescopes. When people claim that science and religion oppose each other, the Quran furnishes answers to the most complicated scientific problems. Observations made by sophisticated telescopes today confirm the statements of the Quran.

The Quran, perfectly aware of the human psyche with its prescience, states that nonbelievers will insist on their convictions regardless how many miracles are presented to them. Some ask: "Why did the people also not believe in Jesus, who had performed miracles and healed the sick and the blind?" This example demonstrates why the majority of people did not believe in Christ and the other prophets, despite their miracles. Miracles change in fact as time goes by, but the negative attitude of most humans remains unchanged.

REASON FOR THE USE OF THE ROYAL PLURAL

I think it advisable to explain the reason for the use of "We" in the verse analyzed in this chapter. God uses both the royal plural "We" and the first person singular "I." Some languages use the first person plural "we" to express grandeur and exalted rank.
In the hundreds of references addressing God in the second person, the pronoun used is "Thou" and never the plural "You" or "Ye." The thousands of references made to Him as a third person always use the pronoun "He" and never "They." References in the Quran to God always use either the second or the third person, and none of them as a second or third person plural. Thousands of times in the Quran, God is referred to as "Allah," "Gracious (Rahman)," Merciful (Raheem)," and "Lord (Rab)" and all of these words are in the singular, never the plural.

DID YOU KNOW !!!

Your Body receives a huge amount of Electromagnetic waves daily!

You get these Electromagnetic waves through the Electrical Equipments that you use and the various equipments which you can not leave!
Also, through the electrical lights which can not be switched off in certain cases for even an hour!

Electromagnetic waves! In other words, you are charged with electromagnetic waves without realizing it!
You have headache! You feel uncomfortable!
Laziness, in action and pain in different places!
Do not forget this when you feel some of these symptoms!

What is the solution from all this??!!

A non Muslim Scientist (From Europe) made a research from which he concluded that the best way for the body to remove the positive Electromagnetic charges which hurts the body is:

• By putting your forehead on the ground more than once, so that the ground will discharge the positive harmful Electromagnetic charges!
• This is similar to the grounding of the buildings where any positive electrical signals (Like thunders) would be discharged through the ground.
• So, put your forehead on the ground to discharge the positive electrical signals!

What makes this research more amazing is that:
•The best is to put your forehead on the sand

And it becomes more amazing that:
•The best way is to put your forehead on the ground while you are positioned to the centre of the Earth! Since you will be able to discharge the Electromagnetic signals in a better and more efficient way!

Mecca is scientifically proven to be the centre of the Earth!

And that Kaa’ba is the exact centre of the Earth!

So, “Prostration” in your prayers is:

•The best way to discharge the harmful electromagnetic signals from your body!
•It is also the ideal way to be very close from the Almighty who created this universe in such a creative way!

Allah Almighty will always ask us to do things because they are helpful and useful for us!There are cases when we won’t know the reason for a certain act, but sooner or later, you might be able to find the reason! In any case, you should trust the Almighty Allah and know that whatever you do for Him, is the best for you!

We do not prostrate to discharge the electromagnetic waves, but to obey the Almighty Allah! We trust that in His commands, there is always a wisdom! Our trust is because He is the Creator, He knows everything!

However, since a scientific reason is available, it was essential to show it to the people so that they can see that whatever Muslims do, is good for them!

There are two verses in the Quran which imply the existence of extraterrestrial life. The first verse indicates the existence of planets similar to earth in the universe:

"God is He who has created seven heavens (samawatte) and of the earth a similar number..." (65:12)

According to Muhammad Asad's interpretation [1] the term Sama (plural: Samawatte), translated as heaven or sky, is applied to any thing that is spread like a canopy above any other thing. Thus, the visible sky which stretches like a vault above Earth and forms its canopy is called sama; and this is the primary meaning of this term in the Quran; in a wider sense, it has the connotation of a "galaxy" or a "cosmic system". As regard to the "seven heavens", it is to be borne in mind that in Arabic usage the number "seven" is often synonymous with "several", or "many". This may explain the "seven heavens" as denoting the multiplicity of galaxies or cosmic systems. As such the above verse (65:12) would mean that God created the universe to compromise many galaxies, each having at least one earth similar to ours.

The second verse speaks not only of the possibility of extraterrestrial life, but it categorically declares that it does exist [2]:

"And among His signs is the creation of heavens and the earth, and of all the living creatures (da'bbah) which He has caused to multiply throughout them, and He has the power to gather them together (Jam-i-him) whenever He wills." (42:29)

The first part of this verse declares the existence of living creatures on the Earth as well as the cosmic system. The Quran describes the living creatures as (da'bbah) which cover all living species that creep or move along the surface of the Earth. It is certainly not applicable to any form of spiritual life. In Arabic an angel will never be referred to as da'bbah or a jinni for that matter. The second part of the verse speaks of bringing together the life on Earth and the life elsewhere in the universe. The verse does not specify the time or the place of this meeting but rather states that this event will most certainly come to pass whenever God so desires. It should be pointed out that the Arabic term Jam-i-him used to express the gathering event can imply either a physical encounter or a contact through communication.

In conclusion the Quran states that life exists in many forms and in many places in this gigantic cosmos and not only restricted to Earth. God has the power to allow these various creatures to be gathered whenever He wills. This is an early reference to the space age in which current space explorations may constitute a modest beginning. However, the very fact that more than fourteen hundred years ago such a possibility of extraterrestrial life was even predicted is miraculous in itself.

Similarly, if we have dirty hearts and we focus on external actions (e.g. Salah, fasting etc) our actions would be futile. Hence, tasawwuf and purification of the heart. Whoever sees sincerity in his sincerity, his sincerity is itself in need of sincerity. The destruction of every sincere person lies in his sincerity, (he is destroyed) to the extent that he sees sincerity in himself. When he abandons seeing sincerity in himself he will be sincere and purified.

There are two kinds of Riya -Showing off- Ostentation i.e. pure ostentation and adulterated ostentation. In pure ostentation "Riya" a man does a good deed only for worldly benefit. In Adulterated ostentation, a man does a good deed with the intention of reaping the benefits of the world as well as of the Hereafter.

If you cannot localize your own changes,
how can you localize that which formed you?

If the first inward thought is not warded off, it will generate a desire, then the desire will generate a wish, and the wish will generate an intention, and the intention will generate the action, and the action will result in ruin and divine wrath. So evil must be cut off at its root, which is when it is simply a thought that crosses the mind, from which all the other things follow on.

Why do we read Quraan, even if we can’t understand a single Arabic word????
This is a beautiful story An old American Muslim lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentuckywith his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa wakeup early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Quran. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.
One day the grandson asked, “Grandpa! I try to read the Qur’an just like you but I don’t understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Qur’an do?” The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, “Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water.” The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, “You’ll have to move a little faster next time,” and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again.
This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, “I don’t want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You’re just not trying hard enough,” and he went out the door to watch the boy try again. At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would Leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breathe, he said, “See Grandpa, it’s useless!” “So you think it is useless?” The old man said, “Look at the basket.” The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different.
It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out. “Son, that’s what happens when you read the Qur’an. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of Allah in our lives.” If you feel this email is worth reading, please forward to your contacts/friends. Allah swt sent Sayyidina Muhammad (s), `alayhi afdal
as-salaat was-salam to humanity in order to bring them
to the shore of safety. And Prophet was dressed with
all kinds of tools that he can use for people to be
saved. If we read the verse of Holy Qur'an wa ma
arsalnaaka illah rahmatan lil alameen, we have sent
you mercy to humanity and if as Allah swt said, sent
him as a mercy, He must have given him all kinds of
necessary equipment.
We see today, armies; generals that have under them
hundreds of thousands of soldiers, they don’t go for
any battlefield without having every kind of tools
necessary in order that they win. Because they don’t
want to lose. And they try their best not to let one
of their army go prisoner in the hands of tyrants or
aggressors.

So you cannot send a general in to the desert with no
tools and say, “O sorry. Find your way out with your
army.” What is possible is that they have to send all
kinds of necessary equipment in order that they stop
the aggression of the enemy against peaceful people.
If that is for us what do you think of the One who
created us? The one who wants all the best for
everyone as human beings. So what is there to be done?
He said, wa rahmatee wasi`at kulla shay – My mercy
encompassed all things.” And he said, “I sent Muhammad
(s) as mercy for everyone.”

So it means the Prophet has been equipped with every
tool needed to fight Shaytan and stop the aggression
of Shaytan. And these tools are not necessarily all of
them can be seen. Because you don’t show you enemy all
the tools that you have. Like the army might hide
their weapons. They might use camouflage to hid their
weapon. Show a few but hide the most. So what do you
think of the one that created us? So Allah swt gave
Sayyidina Muhammad (s) physical weapons we can see and
hidden weapons we cannot see. And these are in the
hands of his inheritors they are holding in their hand
in order to fight the aggression of shaytan against
human beings.

That is why Awliyaullah are not normal human beings.
They are generals and admirals hiding all their tools
camouflaging them in order they can win over devils
and evil power. Don’t underestimate their power. You
remember in the Afghanistan war, Haroun, there were
planes throwing bombs over that area Tora Bora, were
they not? And then they begin to use big rockets and
they say first time they are using them and they weigh
tons and tons. That is a huge one and they never used
it before and they want to reach a place that cannot
be reached.

What do you think about Awliyaullah? Allah gave his
Prophet spiritual weapons that can reach like laser it
reaches Satan and his followers and hits them hard,
wherever they are.
That is why people run to Awliyaullah . find and
search for a wali and stuck with him. Find and search
for a wali and be guide by him. Because they know the
tricks of shaytaan and they use form the equipment
they have what is necessary for shaytan.

I cannot go through what Mawlana shaykh may Allah give
him long life and Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his
soul. There are thing that can be spoken and things
that cannot. You cannot give all your papers as they
say. They know that Allah’s mercy is so huge, He has
sent that mercy that cannot be described to have from
hands of shaytan. And Awliyaullah are expressing in
bringing out a secret that it is important for us to
know and might be some people like it and some people
don’t like it. But here it is not what we like.
Awliyaullah have a relit they have to speak it out and
with it they can turn the arrow against shaytan.

Sometimes you see in children’s movies, someone throw
arrows like that and they put their hand and the arrow
turns back against the other ones. What kind of movie
is that? Cartoons? They show you things and they show
you it is coming on you back. Because you are trying
to hit good people they show it coming back on you.
You see it in all these movies. If these actors and
producers and directors can do that what do you think
about Awliyaullah.

Don’t you see in movies, like harry potter movie, they
have all this kind of magic, if these have magic,
Awliyaullah have reality. With reality they can reach
and throw shaytaan in his heart and split him in half.
And one of these important matters. Is that shaytan
has been dressed, he dressed himself with pride and
selfishness. That is why he has been thrown away. So
anyone who has been dressed with pride and selfishness
it means he is happy and imitating shaytan. And the
Prophet (s), Allah dressed him with humbleness. It
means anyone how is imitating the Prophet to be humble
then Allah will dress him with the secrets of the
Prophet.

Why are we not inheriting these secrets? Because we
are not reaching real imitation to the Prophet in
order to be dressed with all these characteristic. Ti
means we are still falling in the traps of Shaytan.
You men and everyone. Else you would reach one letter,
wa law anzalna hadha al-qurana ala jabalin la-…what
does that mean. If we had sent that Qur'an down on the
mountain then you would have seen that mountain bowing
into sajda and shattering from Allah’s fear and Allah’
greatness.

Fi Allah would reveal the Qur'an on a mountain that
mountain would completely dissolve. Look Allah reveled
the Holy Qur'an on the Prophet and he is still strong.
If Allah revealed that Qur'an on the universe that
universe would shatter. Prophet is stronger than the
mountain and stronger than the universe. That means
you have to read between the lines. Allah is bringing
that example to show you that the Prophet is stronger
than mountains.

Allah said he put the mountains on earth in order to
balance the earth. But when Allah wants to bring them
down he will do so by an earthquake. But Allah is
telling us that the Prophet is stronger than any
mountain on earth and that he is stronger than
anything in the universe. Because that is Allah’s
Words, not human beings words. That is Allah’s Ancient
Word.

So what Allah gave form secrets to Sayyidina Muhammad
(s) no one knows . what Awliyaullah inherited form the
Prophet, no one knows, they only give a little bit,
little bit.
And here Grandshaykh is giving to taste. He said: on
the day of promises, qaaloo balaa, when Allah brought
all the souls of the human beings and asked them “Am I
not your Lord - alastu bi-rabbikum?” and what did we
say? We said “Qaaloo bala - yes, our lord.” We were at
that time all atoms, dharraat.

You know when the Prophet said, kull abn Adam yafna
illa ujb ad-dhanb. All of the human being will
disintegrate in the grave except for one part the
coccyx. Today they found that, Muslim scholars. Why
Prophet said that, there must be a secret. So they
begin to check with western scientists. I put that in
Armageddon book and they put in high pressure and heat
and still found living species there. They took it and
put under high pressure and crushed it and found
living species there.

So that is why Prophet said that on Judgment Day when
Allah will create back all human beings, rain will
come and that is not normal rain but a special rain.
And every drop of rain the name of the person is on
it. and so it knows where the living coccyx of that
person is and goes and attach to it.

“And no shyness in religion, la haya fee ad-deen.” The
Prophet (s) said, “Allah will shower a rain of sperms
and every sperm will know its owner and it will hit on
that coccyx and it means that coccyx will have the egg
in it. And every sperm will know its owner. Every one
will go to the one it belongs.”

So when we were in the Presence of Allah, these small
species the atoms, or we can say the souls were there,
when Allah asked us am I not your Lord and we said,
“yes, O our Lord,” Allah showed Sayyidina Muhammad the
reality, showed him something that is necessary, in
order and that is some special secret that Mawlana
Grandshaykh is revealing that came to him through his
vision and through the inspiration that were coming to
him through his khalwah and the many khalwats that he
did and he was expressing what came to him and was
revealed to him and he was giving us a taste of what
awliyaullah can take from the Prophet.

And he said, that “The Prophet was ordered to look at
certain souls, look at these atoms or these souls on
this side and Allah knows better. And the Prophet
looked and he was disturbed. He was disturbed and at
first he wasn’t disturbed and he was ok, happy but
when Allah dressed this species with what they were
going to do in dunya he got disturbed because he saw
what hey were going to do in dunya.

So he showed him this part and the Prophet was
disturbed. He said, “Ya Rabbee what is this?’” At
that moment Grandshaykh is explaining that Allah sent
in his heart love to them, to these kind of group of
souls. And when the Prophet is looking and he is
disturbed he saw that they are going to be having a
hard time in their lives and they are going to be
asked about it like the other souls but we are not
speaking about them now, but we come to them later,
not today. So the Prophet’s heart was not happy. Allah
knew that reality, that the Prophet was not happy. So
he sent him another time a manifestation, a tajalli of
love that was dominating over this whole what you say,
group, that side where he was looking at these people,
these souls.

He sent from the manifestation of love on them and for
them and dressed that manifestation on the Prophet. So
he was feeling so much love for them that he cannot
drop his eyes from these souls. And Grandshaykh said
that love that Allah has put in the Prophet for these
souls cannot be described for its greatness and it has
no beginning and no end that the Prophet loved them
more than anything in the universes or in the dunya or
anything anywhere, that love he put in his heart was
so great that it encompassed everyone. and he said to
him, “O my Seal of Messengers. The one that you love I
will not leave them without saving them.”

And that is why the Prophet said yuhshar al-maru ma`
man ahab. The human being will be resurrected with the
one he loves. He said, “I will not take them away from
you ya Muhammad. The one you love will be under My
mercy. I will not punish them.”
So since the Prophet loved them Allah swt saved them.
Because if you love someone in dunya, you always ask
the best for him or her.

What do you think if the Allah made the Prophet to
love someone? That is besides his Sahaba, besides his
awliyaullah, besides.. this is a group of people that
Prophet loved them. And this is from the spiritual
secret that Allah opened to the Prophet and the
Prophet opened to some of his Awliyaullah. So who are
these people? What did the Prophet say in one of his
authentic hadith? “Allah made me to love from your
dunya three.” Three main issues. What were these
issues? [prayers, perfume, ] the first was women,
an-nisa, at-teeb, thumma qurratu `aynee fee as-salaat.

So first women, then a nice smell and then my eyes
will be very relaxed with the prayers. so that is why
the Prophet out of the love that Allah put in his
heart to ladies, he said, you know how much they are
going to suffer and how much they are going to carry
in their wombs creation after creation and generation
after generation, he said that “Paradise is under the
feet of the mothers.” If you look at these hadith
about the importance of ladies and women you will say
that Islam gave women so many rights and so much
benefit.

So that is the answer to the brother who was speaking
in the conference about the equality and non-equality
of ladies. Here you can see that ladies are even more
than men. The Prophet (s) was looking at them and
giving them more love than men.
So what did Grandshaykh continue to say? He said, that
in order for Allah, if you love someone, you will love
whom or you will take care of the one who loves that
one also.

If I love this one and I love him it means I want to
take care of you because I love the one that you love.
So Allah made men to love women. Since Allah made men
to love women and Prophet loved women and because of
Prophet’s love to women then Allah will love the men
who love the women who are going to be saved.
Awliyaullah. For them there is no limits. Awliyaullah
are like the ocean.

Understood or I repeat. Break it down. What they say,
Sahib, break it down. Because they bring this subject
always about this issue. As if there is no equality.
Of course there is no equality! They have been given
more than what men have been given! Allah made
Sayyidina Muhammad (s) and then he made men to love
them and because Sayyidina Muhammad (s) loved them
Allah will not punish them and because they are loved
by men; then the men will not be punished for the love
of the Prophet (s) to the women that they love. So
that is one meaning of the mercy of Allah that he has
and from His Beautiful Names ar-Rahman ar-Raheem. And
the Prophet is the gifted mercy, ar-rahmatul- muhda.
So he is rahmatan lil-`alameen. That is one drop of
that rahmat. What about the rest? We don’t know.

He said, “I am not going to send whom you love to be
punished ,and I am not going to send those youth whom
you love to be punished. I am sending all to Paradise
by My mercy.” May Allah swt forgive us and may Allah
make us to be happy with the blessings of awliyaullah
and the blessings of the Prophet.

He said, “ma yaqulu mawlana illa haqqan.” He said, “I
am speaking what is right, I am speaking what I see in
a vision. I am not speaking about what is
hallucination or imagination. It is right and it is
the way that Allah will save people on Judgment Day,
Ummata an-Nabi.” Then he went into many other things I
cannot explain it. We will keep it for more private
sessions, insha-Allah in order that. I will put a sign
on it and insha-Allah one time we can explain that.

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq, bi-hurmatil Fatiha.

Question:
Is there anything that will tell a person that his Lord is pleased with
him?.

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.
Among the signs that the Lord is pleased with His slave is that He guides
him to do good deeds and avoid haraam things. This is confirmed by the
words of Allaah:

While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance and
bestows on them their piety; [Muhammad 47:17]
As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them
to Our paths (i.e. Allaah religion Islamic Monotheism); [al-â˜Ankaboot
29:69]

But if a person is hindered from doing good deeds and avoiding haraam
things we seek refuge with Allaah then that is a sign that Allaah is
not pleased with him.

Allaah has also explained in His Book that the sign of His being pleased
with His slave and of His guidance is that He opens his heart to true
guidance and true faith. And the sign of misguidance and being far from
the Straight Path is distress and constriction in the heart. Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):

“And whomsoever Allaah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam; and
whomsoever He wills to send astray, He makes his breast closed and
constricted, as if he is climbing up to the sky. Thus Allaah puts the
wrath on those who believe ; [al-Anâam 6:125]

Ibn 'Abbaas said, commenting on this verse: And whomsoever Allaah wills
to guide;: He opens his heart to Tawheed and belief therein.

Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 2/175

Another sign of Allaah love for His slave and His being pleased with him
is that He makes him beloved to His slaves. Al-Bukhaari (3209) and Muslim
(2637) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) said: When Allaah loves a person, He calls out to
Jibreel: Allaah loves So and so, so Jibreel loves him. Then Jibreel
calls out to the people of heaven, Allaah loves So and so, so love him.
So the people of heaven love him and he finds acceptance on earth

Al-Nawawi said: and he finds acceptance on earth means that people love
him and are pleased to see him, so their hearts incline towards him. It
says in another report: and he finds love on earth.
And Allaah knows best.
